DESCRIPTION;ALTREP="CID:<FFFF__=0ABBE548DFE235B58f9e8a93d@coffeebean.com>":
i proprietari.
l italian Giovanni Morendo Visconti\, singura reprezentare cunoscută a cet
997-2006.\nDin anul 1938 castelul a devenit sediul Muzeului Civilizaţiei D
acice şi Romane.\n&nbsp\;\n\nMAGNA CURIA CASTLE OF DEVA\nBethlen Castle or
Magna Curia Castle (The Big Court) from Deva is the oldest monument of ci
vil architecture\, extremely valuable\, kept in a very good state of prese
rvation. It lies in the south of the city of Deva\, at the bottom of Deva
Citadel Hill. There are no documents showing a precise date of constructio
n\, the building dating from the Renaissance period\, most likely at the e
nd of century XVI and has undergone several phases of construction and sev
eral owners. The first documentary mention dates from 1520 when the noblem
an Benedict is called 'castellanus Dewa et Provisor curiae'. This building
was inhabited in time by the princes Sigismund Báthory\, General Basta\,
Ştefan Bocskay\, Gabriel Báthory.\nThe one who gave the current appearance
of the building was Gabriel Bethlen\, princely forces commander\, who rec
eived the domain from Gabriel Báthory in 1608\, as a reward for services m
ade during his election. After being elected as prince in 1613\, Gabriel B
ethlen donates the domain of Deva to his wife Susana Károly\, who remains
the owner of the castle until her death\, in 1622.\nAfter the death of Sus
ana Károly\, the domain becomes the property of Ştefan Bethlen\, prince’s
brother nephew. After the early death of Ştefan Betheln\, the property goe
s to his wife Maria Széchy\, whose beauty and adventurous life was sung in
Hungarian literature as the Venus of Murányi. In 1640 she sold the citade
l\, domain and the castle to Prince Gheorghe I Rákóczi for 6\,000 Thalers.
An inventory was made on this occasion showing that approximately the sam
e number of rooms that are today.\nAfter 1687\, when the Austrian garrison
was installed in the Citadel\, Deva domain entered into tax administratio
 n. That was done by the Italian architect Giovanni Morendo Visconti\, the
only known representation of the fortress and its buildings located at its
foot\, out of which lacks the building identifiable with Magna Curia. For
now\, the building could be rented\; the first beneficiary of this system
is General Ştefan Steinville. In 1730\, the domain and Magna Curia become
the property of Count Giulio Visconti\, the master of Empress Elisabeta C
ristina\, who leases it to the financial entrepreneur De Nicola who\, on 1
9 August 1743\, sells it for 60\,000 forints to the governor of Transylvan
ia\, Ioan Haller.\nNow the castle knows the largest and most significant c
hanges and improvements. The one who made these construction works was Con
rad Hammer. The balcony above the main entrance\, built in the form of bar
oque lodge\, as other decorations of the building\, is a true work of art.
Floral compositions are interwoven with figures of two Atlas\, often used
mythological motifs.\nOut of the exterior design of the building is prese
rved today only the well which was situated in the middle of the inner cou
rt that contained the main element of the Daniel family’s coats of arms (f
amily of Sofia\, the governor’s wife)\, a swan with an arrow in the throat
. These elements on the two coats of arms also lie on the decorations of f
ireplace in the audience hall\, above which can be seen a Fenix in fire.\n
The last restoration of the building was carried out between the years 199
7-2006.\nIn 1938 the castle became the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civiliza
 tion.\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;{os-gal-524}\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;
